Every 'Body' Wins

While our existing facilities and services are an excellent start, there's still more we want to offer. With your help, we can reach these goals and others. Make a donation and add your name to our 'Every Body Wins Donor Wall', located in the lobby of the main entrance. When Caledon residents are more active and healthy, we all win.

What is Snoezelen?

Snoezelen is a safe, comfortable environment where one's primary senses are stimulated by a combination of music, lighting effects, gentle vibrations, tactile sensations and aroma therapy.

What does Snoezelen mean?

Snoezelen, meaning to sniff and to doze, first originated in Holland as a leisure experience for people with severe learning disabilities. The first room opened in Canada in 1992. Caledon's Snoezelen Room is unique as it is located in a municipal Recreation facility. The Snoezelen Room at the Caledon Centre was developed as a result of community fundraising efforts.

Who is Snoezelen for?

Although Snoezelen has been proven to particularly benefit people with multiple disabilities and behavioural difficulties, it also benefits:

  • Children & Seniors
  • Schools
  • Group Homes
  • Nursing Homes
  • New mothers and their infants

Those who live with physical and cognitive disabilities need time for play, relaxation and enjoyment in a pleasurable, stimulating setting, away from the pressures of direct care.

Snoezelen provides an atmosphere that allows for opportunities of choice and just the right amount of stimulation.
